County to present public transportation plan at open house

Picton – The public can learn more about plans to improve public transportation in Prince Edward County during an open house on Thursday, April 19.

“We are excited to share this plan with the public, which is the result of a collaborative effort with several community partners,” says Neil Carbone, Director of Community Development, County of Prince Edward. “We invited feedback from a wide range of stakeholders and are now presenting results of that plan to the community prior to finalizing and bringing forward recommendations to Council this spring.”

The County and The County Foundation have developed the plan and business case, in collaboration with the Prince Edward County Transportation Project Steering Committee (Vital Signs Getting Around Group). The federal government provided funding through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund to assist with the development of the plan.

“Enhanced public transportation is vital for the long-term health and well-being of our community and local economy,” says Mayor Robert Quaiff. “I look forward to learning more about the plan and encourage others, especially students, employees, employers, and seniors, to attend the open house and ask questions.”

Two open houses are scheduled for Thursday, April 19: 2-4 pm at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville St.) followed by 5-7 pm at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main St.).

During the first 15 minutes of the open house, there will be a presentation of the plan for improving public transportation for Prince Edward County. This will be followed by an opportunity for the public to ask questions and view the displays. Deseronto Transit, Quinte Access, and the Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association will attend to answer questions about their services.

Free rides to the open house are available. Contact Quinte Access at 613.392.9640 or Deseronto Transit at 613.396.4008 to arrange transportation.
