NOTICE: Enhanced safety measures remain in effect at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home

To protect residents and staff at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home, active screening and restricted visitation measures remain in effect.

In order to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents and staff at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home, the following protocols have been put in place:

• Every person who enters the Home is actively screened according to Ministry of Health guidelines.
• Staff temperatures are taken at the start and end of every shift.
• All staff wear masks to prevent the community spread of the virus.
• Physical distancing among staff and residents is strictly monitored and enforced.
• Visitors for residents are only allowed into the Home if the resident is palliative and the guest meets the active screening criteria.
• Residents are monitored twice a shift for symptoms.
• Staff must be well in order to work. Staff experiencing symptoms of any sort must go home or they are not permitted to enter.
• All staff currently working are dedicated to H.J. McFarland Memorial Home. Staffing has been restricted to workers whose only job is at the Home.
• Staff are outfitted with personal protective equipment, as per Ministry of Health guidelines to protect workers and residents.

There is also more physical distancing between residents and staff. Additional spaces are being used to spread out and keep the recommended physical distance. Staff are also engaging in more one-on-one activities with residents to avoid large group gatherings while continuing to provide support. You can see some examples of this on H.J. McFarland Memorial Home’s recently launched Facebook page.

“We know residents are most vulnerable, and that staff are facing an unprecedented level of stress. We’re doing our upmost to keep everyone safe and to ensure residents feel supported while family and friends are unable to visit," says Home Administrator Kyle Cotton.

To stay in contact with friends and family who are residents at H.J. McFarland during this period of isolation and physical distancing, please leave well-wishes at https://www.facebook.com/HJMcFarlandMemorialHome/.
