The County is seeking input from residents of Prince Edward County on the development of a new Tourism Management Plan. At the direction of Council, a Tourism Management Plan is being developed to help address the challenges that resulted from summertime visitors to The County.
After a particularly busy summer season, staff at all levels of the municipality gained a tremendous amount of first-hand knowledge. To develop the plan, a number of municipal departments are working together to identify these challenges as well as feasible solutions.
To help shape the plan, we’re asking for input from residents by way of an online survey.
The survey touches on areas that most need improvement as well as ideas for helping The County manage the flow and impact of visitors. The survey also touches on how residents believe funds from the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) – scheduled to come into effect on February 1, 2020 – should be spent. Detailed industry consultation on the MAT will take place in November and December 2020.
The Tourism Management Plan is short-term in nature and will not directly address long-term issues of manageable growth or development of the tourism sector. The County is also undertaking a Destination Development Plan, looking 5-7 years in the future; public consultations on that plan will begin in November.
Information received via this survey will help shape a list of activities and prioritize areas of concern for summer 2021. Staff are expecting to present a proposed Tourism Management Plan to Council in January 2021. The survey will stay open until October 28, 2020.
