Building Inspector - Level I (Permanent, Full-time)

The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the permanent full-time position of Building Inspector – Level I. Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the Building Inspector – Level 1 ensures the construction, plumbing, HVAC, and on-site sewage for Part 9 residential buildings is in accordance with all County By-Laws, the Building Code Act, the Ontario Building Code and other relevant acts, legislation or regulation. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Completed post-secondary in a related field such as Architectural Technology, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Has obtained a minimum level certification of qualifications in House, HVAC House, Plumbing House, On-Site Sewage, House and General Legal, from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
  • CBCO certification through the Ontario Building Officials Association is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in enforcement of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience working with various By-Laws, the Ontario Building Code, and Provincial and Municipal Acts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, with knowledge related to Microsoft Office Software.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Check.
  • Valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.

The current rate of pay for this position is $31.78 per hour, per Band 11 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement.
