Construction Inspector

Are you a talented Civil Engineering Technician or Technologist with experience in construction inspection? The County is now accepting applications for the full-time permanent position of Construction Inspector. 

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Construction Inspector is responsible for conducting construction inspections and general oversight of construction activities on development sites as well as municipal civil capital projects. 

The Construction Inspector will:  perform reviews of construction status and conduct spot checks on various construction sites throughout the Municipality to verify general conformance with municipal requirements; liaise with the Municipal Project Manager and Contract Administrator; oversee performance testing of various municipal infrastructure components; participate in our continuous improvement efforts and prepare reports. 

This role may also provide oversight, instruction and supervision to students and/or temporary employees, as required. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist (Municipal Option) or related program from an accredited college/university, required.
  • Certified Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist (C. Tech./CET) status and current membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (O.A.C.E.T.T.), required. 
  • Successful completion of inspection courses in road and sewer inspection (Ministry of Transportation and/or Ministry of Environment) preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ related experience, including one year in a municipal sector environment, required. 
  • Thorough knowledge of land development procedures, servicing and site development, and municipal procedures.
  • Demonstrated skilled experience is required in the use of drafting equipment, including computer-related drafting and design applications, surveying equipment, print machines, and concrete and soil testing equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other related database applications including Microsoft Project.
  • Familiarity with GIS software, All Pipes software, and other municipal software systems considered an asset.
  • Ability to keep the construction community accountable through effective professional communication, presence and demeanor with all construction site workers, developers, contractors, agencies, members of the public and other Municipal employees. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment at all times.
  • Proven excellent organizational, research, and investigative skills.
  • Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License with the use of a safe, reliable vehicle. 

The current hourly rate of pay for this position is $38.61, as per Band 13 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement. Compensation also includes a competitive benefit package and membership in OMERS. Please submit your application prior to 4:00pm on September 22, 2023 to careers@pecounty.on.ca.
