Contract Driver - Roads (Temporary, Full-Time, Multiple Vacancies)

The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for multiple temporary full-time contract positions of Driver – Roads. Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, the primary duties of this position will be to provide the safe operation of the winter control equipment used on our roads, as well as the maintenance of County roads, sidewalks and bridges. These positions will be required for a minimum of four (4) months to a maximum of six (6) months during the winter season.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma and related experience or five (5) years’ experience driving DZ vehicles. Preference will be given to those applicants who have prior experience driving a snow plow, dump truck or other similar equipment
  • Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks for road maintenance, construction and snow removal
  • Previous experience in the operation of heavy equipment
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, as required
  • Proven communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge and training under the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Ability to complete tasks involving heavy pushing, pulling and lifting on a regular basis and work in an uncontrolled environment
  • Proof of valid class ‘DZ’ driver’s license and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

The current rate of pay for this contract position is $25.15 per hour, plus 10% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation, as per Band 6 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement. Please submit your application by 4:00pm on September 20, 2024 to careers@pecounty.on.ca.
