Recreation Student

Do you enjoy working both indoors and outdoors? Do you thrive working in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for customer service? Our Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Recreation Student.

Reporting to the Recreation & Community Facilities Supervisor, this position will have a focus on customer service, and will involve tasks at our Recreation Centres such as monitoring the walking track, skate and ice monitoring duties, set up/take down of equipment, general janitorial work as required, and helping ensure rules and procedures for use of the facility are followed. This student will also perform grounds keeping and maintenance related duties for all municipal sports fields, open spaces, playgrounds and parks, as well as garbage removal and public area sanitation.                                                  

To be considered for this student position you must possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of age 16 and attending school as a full-time student during the school year
  • Proven abilities in customer service, communication, public relations, and cash handling
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to show initiative in the workplace
  • Able to work both as part of a team and independently as required
  • Safety conscious and provides own certified safety footwear                      
  • Excellent physical condition with confident ice-skating skills
  • Valid 1st Aid or CPR certificate would be considered an asset
  • Minimum ‘G2’ Driver’s Licence
  • Proof of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends in the winter at both Community Centre locations; Picton and Wellington
