Senior Wastewater Services Operator (Permanent, full-time)
Reporting to the Wastewater Services Supervisor, the Senior Wastewater Services Operator is responsible for organizing and directing Wastewater Operators to deliver the operation and maintenance of all wastewater facilities and collection systems supporting all legislated requirements within the County of Prince Edward. This includes acting as and performing Operator in Charge (OIC) related duties, assigning work to Wastewater Operators, and leading staff in all aspects of the wastewater service division, including facility operation and maintenance, work planning, and personal assignments in conjunction with the Wastewater Services Supervisor.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Completed post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Science or an equivalent combination of relevant education and related experience.
- Ontario Ministry of the Environment Certificates of Competency in the following: Class 2 Wastewater Treatment; Class 2 Wastewater Collection.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with treatment plant and collection system repairs and maintenance.
- Ability to perform industrial maintenance and troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical equipment, as well as mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Capable of identifying problems and troubleshooting operations with the ability to report adverse situations accordingly based on legislated requirements.
- Ability to keep clear and detailed records both electronically and written to support the Department’s compliance requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills with the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment at all times.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, SCADA systems, and other related operating database applications.
- Valid class ‘G’ Ontario Drivers Licence and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
- Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm, with overtime and on-call in addition to this regular schedule.
The current hourly rate of pay for this position is $36.92 to $38.70 per hour, as per Band 12 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement. Additional rates paid for Level 1 – 3 water or wastewater treatment licenses range from $2.50 to $8.95 per hour. Compensation also includes a comprehensive benefit package and membership in OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
