Supervisor, Roads (Permanent, full-time)

About This Position: 

The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Supervisor, Roads.  Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure, the Supervisor, Roads is responsible for both rural and urban roads, bridge and infrastructure repair, maintenance, specialized urban operations, construction and related work operations for the municipality. Providing quality service while adhering to all County and provincial policies and regulations, the Supervisor, Roads manages multiple projects, equipment assignments and coordinates staff and contractors. 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) designation or willingness to obtain, required.
  • Minimum three years of work-related experience, required; preferably in a municipal and/or unionized environment, preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR), Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment, Technical Safety Standards Association (TSSA), Ontario Traffic Manual, Book 7 and any other associated legislations, regulations, Acts or by-laws.
  • Experience with heavy/floating equipment operations with proven ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment and other related tools.
  • Knowledge of road repair, maintenance and construction principles and techniques to supervise project activities related to roads, bridges and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of tree management and assessment is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and to function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including effective mentoring, coaching, counselling and conflict management.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, responding with flexibility to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and troubleshoot with the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Proven ability to utilize a variety of software packages including MS Word applications, AutoCAD, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and other related systems. Fleet or asset management software experience, an asset.
  • Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract. DZ license preferred. 

The current salary range for this position is $92,283.09 to $129,218.61 as per the Non-Union By-Law. Compensation also includes a competitive benefit package and membership in OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
