Additional public boat launch on West Lake near Wellington coming this summer

May 16, 2022

An additional boat launch on West Lake near Wellington will be open to the public for the 2022 boating season.

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 12, Council directed staff to enter into an agreement with Cer-A-Met Manufacturing. The public will be able to use the boat ramp and a designated parking area at 16057 Loyalist Parkway. The agreement will also include an option for a one-year extension.

Council directed staff to explore alternative boat launch options near Wellington for the 2022 season and beyond after it approved the closure of the Belleville Street launch in 2021 due to safety concerns and traffic congestion issues.

The boat ramp at 16057 Loyalist Parkway will allow boaters to launch of smaller watercraft; the gravel ramp will not be suitable for larger, heavier boats. The parking area will accommodate approximately 15 vehicles/trailers. Boaters can use their full season boat launch parking permit at the new location or pay for a single day use. The boat launch will have a portable toilet and garbage bins. Park space and other amenities will not be offered at this location.

The municipality will make improvements to the site in the coming weeks before the launch is open to the public. The boat launch is tentatively scheduled to open in the middle of June. Updates will be provided in the coming weeks.
