April is Dig Safe Month and The County is reminding residents to “call before you dig.” Residents must contact Ontario One Call before they dig or break ground on any project. Ontario One Call is a useful tool for requesting a free utility locate. It is against the law to dig without a utility locate.
A locate helps to identify hazardous gas and utility lines buried below the surface of your lawn. Never assume that it is safe to dig, especially in your front yard where utilities are often located. Request a locate for all projects including digging for a fence, patio, tree planting or even aerating your lawn.
Locates are free and easy to book through Ontario One Call. Request a locate online at www.ontarioonecall.ca or call the Ontario One Call 24/7 contact centre (1.800.400.2255.)
