The County of Prince Edward will hold a Public Consultation Centre (PCC) on Thursday, September 7 for the Wellington trunk watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure upgrades.
The PCC will be held at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street, Wellington) from 6 – 8 pm on September 7. Please note: this meeting was previously scheduled to take place on August 24.
At the PCC, County staff and consultants will present background information on the project including details regarding the pumping station.
The PCC will follow an open house style format with information boards. Staff and consultant will address any questions from attendees.
The County has completed the detailed design for Wellington trunk watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure upgrades and is preparing the project for tender. The 2021 Wellington Master Servicing Plan included new trunk watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure for Wellington.
During the detailed design it was determined that a sanitary pumping station was needed. The geotechnical analysis determined that a large volume of rock would have to be excavated to get to the required depths for the sanitary trunk mains. Removing this much rock would be extremely expensive and disruptive to businesses and residents on Wellington Main Street. The design team identified the sanitary pumping station as a viable alternative that is more cost effective and avoids a major rock excavation on Wellington Main Street.
The addition of the sanitary pumping station triggered the need for an addendum to the existing 2021 Master Servicing Plan. Once the addendum to the existing Master Servicing Plan is completed, the sanitary pumping station will meet the requirements of a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment.
