County introduces new GIS viewer

October 3, 2023

The County of Prince Edward is offering the public an updated geographic information systems (GIS) viewer.

The public can use the GIS viewer to verify addresses, search for properties by roll number, view the current zoning of a property, print maps, and more.

The County is making the change because the old viewer is no longer supported by the provider. In addition, the upgrade will further protect the County from cyber-attacks.

The new GIS viewer has a similar look and feel to the old version. Users will notice new functions like a swipe tool to quickly compare layers, 3D elevation tools, and access to and expanded collection of base maps. In the coming weeks, staff will monitor the performance of the viewer and adjust if possible based on feedback.

The new viewer will run alongside the old viewer during a short transition period. Users can submit their feedback that staff will consider before the old viewer is taken offline.

The County used modernization funding from the provincial government to help fund this project.
