The County-owned parking lot at Dunes Beach will be maintained by Sandbanks Provincial Park this winter. This new partnership between The County and the Provincial Park will offer more parking options and enable safer access to Richardson’s Trail and the Dunes Trail for the public to explore by foot, cross-country ski or snowshoe.
The parking lot is located off County Road 12, south of the Dunes Beach day use area and the West Lake Campground entrance.
Provincial Park staff have begun plowing the lot as part of their regular plowing program. Future improvements include placing an even covering of gravel over the parking lot and grading the entrance to the adjoining trail. In addition, the Park will install a garbage can, interpretive signage and a dispenser box for trail maps.
The public is invited to park in the lot free of charge and enjoy the unique beauty of Sandbanks Provincial Park during the winter months. Although the Park is technically closed, self-guided winter day use is available without a fee.
The parking lot will be open only during the winter and will be closed during the Provincial Park’s operating season (April 29 – October 31).
