Emergency overnight accommodations available over next week

January 19, 2022

Emergency accommodations are available over the next week as Environment Canada is forecasting low temperatures of -15° C or colder on several nights.

If community members need a place to stay overnight, they can call the local Salvation Army office at 613.476.3159 and a representative will help arrange accommodations.

The County has partnered with the local Salvation Army to offer emergency overnight accommodations during extreme cold conditions.

Emergency overnight accommodations will be available when Environment Canada forecasts a temperature of -15° C or colder, or a wind chill of -20° C or colder, for Prince Edward County. The program is supported financially by the Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington Social Services.

The municipality’s emergency control group developed the extreme cold weather procedure based on community need and practices in similar-sized municipalities.

If community members need a place to get warm during the day, they can pop into a local branch of the Prince Edward County Public Library. Visit the Library website for branch hours of operation. The Library is operating at 50 per cent capacity as per provincial COVID-19 regulations. Visitors to the library must follow all COVID-19 protocols including wearing a mask and passing the COVID-19 screening.
