Picton – During Emergency Preparedness Week from May 1 – 7, the County of Prince Edward is urging residents to “be ready for anything.”
“We want to encourage our residents to take action to become better prepared for the range of emergencies they could face in the County,” says Fire Chief Chad Brown of the Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue.
Emergency Preparedness Week, a national annual event, raises awareness and encourages residents to become better prepared in the event of an emergency.
Natural disasters may be beyond our control, but everyone can take steps to reduce the risk and impact of emergencies. Individuals, communities, governments, and the private sector all share responsibility in emergency management and the common goal of preventing and managing disasters.
These three simple steps will help you protect and take care of yourself and your loved ones during a crisis.
- Know the Risks: It is important to know the risks in your community to be better to prepared for their impact.
- Make an Emergency Plan: Creating a plan will help you and your family know what to do in case an emergency.
- Build an Emergency Kit: The kit should contain everything you and your family will need to stay safe and comfortable for up to 72 hours and should be assembled considering the specific needs of your family members.
