Fire flow testing in Picton June 10-11

June 9, 2021

Follow-up fire flow testing and rating will be conducted at various locations through the Picton Drinking Water System on Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11.

Testing will take place between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm.

  • Testing will take place in the following areas:
    • Streets south of Picton Main Street from Chapel Street up to and including Bridge Street. Macauley Village is not included in testing.
    • Streets north of Picton Main Street from Henry Street to Washburn Street including The Westwinds.
    • Millennium Trail between County Road 1 (Sandy Hook Road) and County Road 10 (Lake Street)
  • Flow testing and rating is conducted to support fire protection in The County. Fire fighters use the fire hydrant rating results to anticipate the water supply available through a hydrant when they arrive at the scene of a fire.
  • To conduct fire hydrant flow testing, certified Drinking Water Operators will be operating select hydrants throughout the distribution system. Detailed information on what to expect when hydrant flushing is taking place in your area is available on The County’s website.
  • During hydrant fire flow testing, customers are asked to avoid excessive water use (Example: running tap water for extended periods, using the washing machine and dish washer simultaneously).
  • Like with other water distribution system maintenance, fire flow testing can disturb deposits that normally occur in the water pipes of the distribution system. Customers in the immediate area where flow tests are being conducted may experience intermittent pressure fluctuations and some discolouration of tap water while flushing is being completed. This does not affect the safety or quality of your water.
  • If coloured water has been experienced, customers should run the cold water tap closest to the water meter for a few minutes until tap water runs clear. Customers are advised to wait until the water runs clear at the tap before doing laundry or running the dishwasher. Using discoloured water in your washing machine could result in stained laundry.
  • For more information, contact the County of Prince Edward at 613.476.2148 extension 1023, 613.962.9108 extension 1023 or

Please note: The County of Prince Edward provides this information as a service to the general public.
