A full closure of the Picton Main Street and Bridge Street intersection (Picton Town Hill) will take place from July 25 – 27.
The full closure of the intersection and overnight work will occur, weather permitting, from 7 am on Monday July 25 continuously through to 7 am on Wednesday July 27.
The intent of the closure is to minimize the impact on adjacent residences and businesses as much as possible and limit traffic congestion. Allowing overnight activity will reduce the closure duration from five days to two days. Rock breaking will not be permitted overnight.
One lane of traffic will be back in operation on Wednesday, July 27, with two traffic lanes open before the weekend.
During previous sanitary sewer construction work on Bridge Street, the contractor identified an unforeseen condition on an existing maintenance hole. A sanitary maintenance hole more than 5 metres deep needs to be replaced to accommodate the deepening of an enlarged sanitary sewer to better serve existing and future developments. The work cannot be done safely without the full closure of the intersection.
A detour route will be established as shown on the attached map and local traffic will be able to access the downtown and Bridge Street through various side streets. This work is part of the project to reconstruct Picton Main Street from Bridge Street to Johnson Street.
