The County is introducing additional safety features at a busy intersection in Picton next week.
A new all-way stop and pedestrian crossover will be installed at the intersection of Church and Union streets. The changes will come into effect on Tuesday, November 3.
Drivers travelling on Union Street will now be required to stop before the intersection with Church Street. The municipality is installing stop signs in both directions on Union Street. See the attached map for reference.
A pedestrian crossing will be painted on the roadway to help people safely cross Union Street. An overhead flashing LED beacon will provide drivers with advance warning that a pedestrian crossing is ahead.
To alert drivers about the new stop signs on Union Street, portable digital message signs and “Stop Ahead” signs will be installed in advance of the intersection.
The County is enhancing the intersection based on a study conducted by Jewell Engineering in 2019. An all-way stop and pedestrian crossover was recommended for the intersection based on pedestrian and vehicular counts.
If you have questions regarding the intersection, contact Aynsley Osborne, E.I.T., at 613.476.2148 ext. 2005 or email aosborne@pecounty.on.ca.
