The County is looking to attract a diverse range of dedicated community volunteers to serve on the Heritage Designation Working Group or the Street Naming Task Team.
Heritage Designation Working Group (seeking minimum of two public members)
A Working Group is an assembly of interested people, led by a chair, working together to determine the best strategic ways to impact a specified subject, as determined by the Terms of Reference.
What to expect as a member of the Heritage Designation Working Group:
Members will review the process related to the listing of heritage value properties’ registers to ensure the municipality meets the changes proposed by Bill 23. The group will make recommendations on any necessary changes (additions and deletions of the list) and review the current municipal register before the legislated deadline.
The Working Group will support the Built & Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee (BCHAC), and ultimately Council determine what to designate. It will provide advice, assistance and recommendations to Council on matters related to heritage and cultural value. The Working Group is a method for BCHAC members to collaborate with staff to promote awareness and efficiency in the heritage designation process.
Street Naming Task Team (seeking two public members and one youth)
A Task Team is an assembly of experts working together with a specific, achievable and measurable goal/purpose and ends when that goal/purpose is realized. A Task Team will follow a set workflow, as determined in the Terms of Reference. A board/committee may use a Task Team to address a series of ongoing tasks of the same purpose and workflow or a single major task.
What to expect as a member of the Street Naming Task Team:
This Task Team will act as a liaison between the Built & Cultural Heritage Committee and Council, in the application of the Commemorative Street Naming Policy, to create a Street Name Reserve List. The Task Team will also review proposals to rename roadways in the County, as they occur. The Task Team will conduct research and/or review historical, cultural, community, or other relevant documents to ensure the validity of the proposed street names.
The deadline to apply for the Working Group or Task Team is Wednesday, June 7 at 5 pm. To learn more and to apply online, visit the County website. Any permanent resident, property owner, or business owner in Prince Edward County that is 16 years of age or older is eligible to apply.
