Landfill and transfer sites open for essential visits

January 5, 2022

One untagged bag allowed at curbside until Jan. 27

The County of Prince Edward will continue to require the following safety procedures at landfill and transfer sites to protect staff and the public during the current rise in COVID-19 cases.

  • Visitors must remain in their vehicle unless otherwise directed by the landfill attendant.
  • Visitors must wear a face mask that covers the nose and mouth while on-site at any of the landfills or transfer stations.
  • Visitors are asked to bring small bills or exact change in order to limit the cash handling by the attendants.
  • Visitors should sort their recycling before coming to the sites to avoid creating unnecessary crowds at the bins.
  • The public is reminded to refrain from visiting a landfill or transfer site if they are currently self-isolating, experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or live with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • Visitors should practice social distancing (keep a distance of 2m/6.5’ from others), wash their hands thoroughly and frequently, and use hand sanitizer.

The municipality is urging essential trips only to limit traffic at the landfill and transfer sites and to ensure social distancing can be maintained.

One untagged bag allowed at curbside until Jan. 27

To help people stay at home and avoid unnecessary trips to landfill and transfer sites, the County is allowing residents to put out one untagged bag of garbage per week during the Step 2 of the provincial Roadmap to Reopening. This program will be in place starting Thursday, January 6 and will continue until at least Thursday, January 27.

The two-bag limit per week for curbside collection remains in place. Bag tags can be purchased at select locations. Please call ahead to determine if the merchants are open and still selling tags. Additional garbage bag tags can also be purchased by mail. Send your request and a cheque payable to The County of Prince Edward to: Edward Building, Suite 103, 280 Picton Main Street, Picton ON, KOK 2T0.

Please note: the one untagged bag allowance does not apply to garbage brought to landfill and transfer sites. Regular fees will still apply to these bags.

Curbside garbage, green bin, and recycling collection is continuing on the normal schedule at this time.
