SUMMARY:Public Meeting: Proposed Ballot Question
DESCRIPTION:The public can learn more and provide input on a proposed ballot question for the 2026 municipal election at four public meetings. \nCounty Council intends to pass a by-law to add the following question to the election ballot: \nAre you in favour of a third-party review of Council size and related ward boundary changes? \nAnswer options: “Yes” or “No” only \nCouncil will hold public meetings on the following days: \nDate: October 23\, 2025\nTime: 6 pm\nLocation: Ameliasburgh Town Hall\, 13 Coleman Street\, Ameliasburgh \nDate: October 28\, 2025\nTime: 6 pm\nLocation: Wellington and District Community Centre\, 111 Belleville Street\, Wellington \nDate: November 3\, 2025\nTime: 6 pm\nLocation: Athol Town Hall\, 1685 County Road 10\, Cherry Valley \nDate: November 18\, 2025\nTime: 6 pm\nLocation: Shire Hall\, 332 Picton Main Street \nFor the results of the question to be legally binding on the municipality: \n\nAt least 50 per cent of the eligible electors in the municipality vote on the question\, and\nMore than 50 per cent of the voters are in favour\n\nShould this occur the estimated costs of a third-party review would be between $60\,000 and $100\,000 depending on the scope of the work. Any changes would be in effect for the 2031 municipal election. \nVisit the County website for more information.
