SUMMARY:Earth Day Event- Owen Jones Memorial Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:The annual Owen Jones Memorial Clean-up is scheduled for Saturday\, April 20. \n“Prince Edward County takes littering seriously because it has a detrimental effect on our environment and on our residents’ quality of life\,” Mayor Steve Ferguson says. “In the spirit of combating littering we are once again participating in the Owen Jones Community Clean Up. To further spread the word in our community\, we are also proud to sponsor an anti-littering sign design contest for local students. We look forward to recognizing the winning artists at the Council meeting on April 9.” \nThe County is partnering with community leaders to host the clean-up. This year the event will be held in support of the Quinte Trash Bash\, which is a series of clean-ups taking place in neighbouring municipalities across the Quinte region. \nResidents who are interested in participating alone or in a group in Prince Edward County can register by contacting Evan Nash at evannash@gmail.com. More information is available at the following link  https://www.facebook.com/groups/293875649003122/ \nWaste collected on the day of the clean-up can be dropped off at the following locations free of charge: \n\nPicton Home Hardware (13544 Loyalist Parkway)\nMidtown Brewery parking lot (266 Wellington Main Street)\n15 Coleman Street (Ameliasburgh)\, next to the works garage\n2179 County Road 17 (Milford)\n\nThe community clean-up is one of several events being held as part of the Earth Day celebrations this year. Staff and community partners have prepared a number of exciting events and activities throughout the days leading up to and surrounding Earth Day. Details will be posted on the County’s events calendar and the Sustainability Hub early next week. \nIf you require further information\, contact the County of Prince Edward at 613.476.2148 ext. 1023\, 613.962.9108 ext. 1023\, or info@pecounty.on.ca \n

SUMMARY:Earth Day Event- Large Item Swap
DESCRIPTION:Prince Edward County is supporting beneficial re-use of large items through endorsing a large item swap. \nDuring the event\, residents within settlement areas are encouraged to place their lightly used large items at the curb for other residents to take and continue to use. Large items could include furniture\, electronics\, tools\, etc. \nPromoting the driving of rural roads not only impacts the road condition but contributes large amounts of greenhouse gases. As an alternative\, the County has set up a Facebook page where residents in rural areas can post their items and location for people to peruse. Those living in the settlement areas are also welcome to use the site. \nItems must be removed the next day. The event will be weather dependent and will be cancelled in the event of rain.
