In 2021\, the municipality took another step in implementing effective measures to mitigate climate change when it became an active member of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. \nThe PCP program is a national network of more than 400 municipalities with the shared goal of taking action against climate change and reducing local greenhouse gas emissions. As a member of the PCP program\, the municipality is committed to meeting five milestones over the next 10 years: \n\nMilestone 1: Creating a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and forecast\nMilestone 2: Setting emission reduction targets\nMilestone 3: Developing a Local Action Plan\nMilestone 4: Implementing the Local Action Plan\nMilestone 5: Monitoring and evaluating progress\n\nThese steps are followed by the corporation and by the community in a collaborative approach to developing a plan to address climate change. SUMMARY:Earth Day Event: Large Item Swap
DESCRIPTION:Prince Edward County is celebrating Earth Day with several events and activities leading up to and surrounding the occasion. \nThe large item swap takes place across the County all weekend long on Saturday\, April 18 and Sunday\, April 19! Residents within settlement areas are encouraged to place their lightly used large items at the curb for other residents to take and continue to use. \nFor those living in rural areas\, the municipality encourages residents to post their items and location on the event page on Facebook for people to peruse. This will help reduce greenhouse gases and improve interest in the program. Those living in the settlement areas are also welcome to post the items they will be offering.

SUMMARY:Earth Day Event: Pitch-In Picton
DESCRIPTION:Pitch-In Picton takes place on Thursday\, April 23 at 6 pm. Pitch-In Picton is a monthly\, one-hour mini trash bash meets nature walk and local history tour. From April to October\, Feral Folc and the Picton BIA are walking the streets of Picton in search of trash. Join the cleanup by meeting outside of the Picton Library (208 Picton Main Street). No registration is required. Garbage and recycling bags\, gloves\, hand-sanitizer\, bag tags\, and snacks are supplied by the Picton BIA.  \nThe walk will cover 1 – 2 km of distance\, mostly on sidewalks\, in alleys and parking lots but can sometimes include parks and other uneven surfaces. Options for those with reduced mobility are available. If you require support\, please email feralfolc@gmail.com before the event. Each participant will receive a local gift certificate!
