SUMMARY:Silver Chain Challenge Day - Last Call for Kilometers
DESCRIPTION:Mayor Steve Ferguson is calling on the community to step up in a quest to win a second consecutive Silver Chain Challenge as the most active community in Eastern Ontario! \nLet’s get out today and log some kilometers on the LAST DAY of the Silver Chain Challenge. Whether you travel by bike\, foot or wheels\, log your distance and we’ll be on our way another Prince Edward County win in 2022! \nThe Silver Chain Challenge began seven years ago with the goal of inspiring and promoting engaged\, active\, safe\, and healthier communities. Over the last couple of years\, the challenge has expanded beyond a competition between Lanark and Renfrew counties to include all 13 counties within Eastern Ontario. \nFrom June 1-30\, residents can log the kilometres they have travelled by bike or on foot. A real-time bar graph of kilometres clocked will be displayed online showing which municipality is the most active. The community with the most kilometres at the end of the month will receive the Silver Chain and bragging rights. \nResidents of all ages\, abilities\, and backgrounds can participate in this initiative. Register today and start clocking your kilometres. With benefits to mental and physical health\, we will see a healthier and stronger community and economy. \nThe Silver Chain Challenge promotes healthy and safe active transportation. Be visible when you bike\, walk\, run or wheel on our roads and trails. Learn the rules of the road\, wear a cycling appropriate helmet and find out more about safety for cyclists of all ages.

SUMMARY:The de Vries Natural Heritage Collection
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village permanent exhibits\, this collection tells incredible stories about our natural world\, its biodiversity\, both the carelessness and conservation efforts of humankind and last\, but not least\, the craftsmanship of Jake de Vries and his lifelong passion for preserving natural heritage for both public education and aesthetic appreciation. Although Jake was a hunter in his early years\, he was more of a conservationist and considered taxidermy as a method of presenting the wonder and beauty of nature. The majority of specimens were not hunting trophies\, but rather victims of either busy roadways or poachers (Ministry of Natural Resources staff often provided Jake with specimens that had met these sad fates). The collection shows the love he had for wildlife and his great gift for bringing these once lifeless creatures back to life.

SUMMARY:The Indigenous History of Prince Edward County
DESCRIPTION:A permanent exhibit by The County Museums at Macaulay Heritage Park. \nThe County’s human history spans nearly 12\,000 years. However\, in the past our museums have focused almost solely on the last two centuries\, and the story of white Loyalists\, who arrived in Prince Edward County in the late 1700s\, and their descendants. It is the duty of the County Museums to preserve the County’s history truthfully\, and as completely as we can\, and this permanent exhibit dedicated to the story of Prince Edward County’s Indigenous peoples provides an opportunity to collaborate with our neighbours at Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory\, and acquaint our visitors with an undertold story from this region’s past\, present\, and future. \nTo see a video of our friend Kahehtoktha Janice Brant demonstrating traditional ways of grinding corn\, beans and rice\, click here. \nExplore further with a small booklet discussing what we can learn from Indigenous technologies\, written by Janice. The PDF is available here.
