DESCRIPTION:Homes First Development Corporation will hold a public information meeting for a development proposal at Nicholas Street and Cumberland Street on Wednesday\, August 28 at 6 pm at the Picton Town Hall (2 Ross Street). \nThe proposed development is situated on an irregularly shaped site located generally southwest of the intersection of Nicholas Street and Cumberland Street in Picton. A smaller triangular shaped portion of the site is located on the north side of Cumberland Street. Click here to see a diagram of the site. \nThe proposed development would consist of a medium-density rental housing project with a range of unit types. The proposal consists of a townhouse block and a semi-detached building that fronts onto Nicholas Street\, and a low-rise apartment building that would be accessed from a new road extension. \nThis public meeting is an information meeting only. Public information meetings are held as part of the updated planning application process. \nAt a public information meeting\, the proponent/agent will present the proposal. If any member of the public would like to ask questions or make comments\, they will be able to do so after the presentation by the applicant. \nThe statutory public meeting required under the Planning Act will be a Planning Committee meeting and would only be held after the public information meeting and when the assigned County planner has completed an analysis of the project. \nMembers of the public who wish to attend the meeting are asked to register by contacting Matthew Coffey\, Planning Approvals\, Coordinator\, at mcoffey@pecounty.on.ca by noon on Monday\, August 26. DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is hosting a public meeting to gather input and feedback on the Big Island Boat Launch Area parkland improvement project. \nThe Big Island Boat Launch area is one of 10 parkland projects across Prince Edward County that are being supported by funds from the Parkland Reserve. Provincial legislation requires municipalities to spend a certain portion of funds in their Parkland Reserve by the end of the year. The funds in this reserve come from developers who provide cash instead of dedicating parkland to the municipality. Municipalities are required to spend those funds in the same geographic area as the development. \nThe municipality has allocated a specific amount of money for the 10 parkland projects . The public can share their ideas about the types of amenities or park features they would like the municipality to consider when spending these funds. DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward will host a public information meeting on Wednesday\, September 25 for the Queen Elizabeth School redevelopment. \nThe meeting will take place at the Rotary Hall inside the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street) from 6-8 pm. \nThe goal of the meeting is to present the history and plans for the redevelopment and to give the public the opportunity to better understand and provide input to the re-development project. \nAt the meeting\, municipal staff will give a brief presentation before seeking neighbourhood resident input toward best use of the site at Barker and Centre Streets\, inviting a conversation on an integrated affordable housing model. \nFollowing the public meeting\, staff will consolidate the comments and feedback and provide them to the prospective partners for use as they refine their proposals. After a federal grant was denied in 2023 to re-develop the site for affordable housing and a community hub\, the municipality decided to purchase the 1.8-hectare property\, located at 35 Barker Street in Picton\, from the school board. \nThe objectives of the redevelopment project are to come closest to the original community vision for the site including: \n\nProviding as many affordable housing units as possible\, with affordability as defined in the County’s Municipal Housing Project Facilities By-Law\nCreating a community hub\, similar to the original vision\, for local organizations\nAllowing the municipality to recoup its investment in the property (approximately $1.5 million) within the 2024 calendar year\nBeing positioned to move forward with the redevelopment as quickly as possible\n\n  \nAn expression of interest (EOI) to the community was launched in the summer 2024 to move the vision to reality. DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is undertaking a Master Servicing Plan Study to determine infrastructure needs for water\, wastewater\, and stormwater for the Picton/Bloomfield serviced area\, to support future growth and planned developments in the area. \nThe recently completed Regional Water Supply Servicing Master Plan identified the preferred alternative of connecting Picton/Bloomfield to the Wellington Drinking Water System and obtaining full servicing capacity from a new regional water treatment plant in Wellington. This preferred alternative has been incorporated into the Picton Master Servicing Plan. \nThe Master Servicing Plan Study is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of Approach 2 for Master Plans of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process\, which is an approved process under the Environmental Assessment Act. Phases 1 and 2 of the EA process will be completed. \nThis is the second Public Consultation Centre (PCC) being held in relation to this study. This second PCC will present the preliminary preferred recommendations and seek public feedback on the information presented. The PCC will follow an open-house format. Project team representatives and County Staff will be available to answer questions and discuss next steps. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Public Information Meeting: Shore Lands designation of the Official Plan
DESCRIPTION:When Council approved the current Official Plan in 2021\, it directed staff to review the Shore Lands designation to determine if this designation is needed and/or which lands are best suited for this designation. \nA public information meeting for the review is scheduled for Tuesday\, October 15 from 6-8 pm at the Wellington and District Community Centre. \nThe Official Plan identifies Shore Lands as an important resource that shall be managed in a way that promotes appropriate and sustainable development\, with a focus on tourism and enhancing public access to the waterfront. \nShore Lands support a broad range of land and water-based recreational\, tourism-related commercial and residential uses\, which will continue to be developed in a sustainable manner that protects water resources and shoreline features\, as well as enhancing the public’s access to the water’s edge. \nThe review will place in two phases: \nPhase 1: October 2024 – January 2025: The municipality intends to initiate an Official Plan amendment to remove the Shore Lands designation from properties where the Shore Lands designation overlaps with Natural Heritage features and areas identified in the Official Plan. \nProperty owners impacted by the proposed Official Plan amendment will receive a mailed notice from the municipality in the coming weeks. \nThe municipality is proposing this change because certain uses permitted in the Shore Land designation have a greater potential for adverse impacts on natural environment features such as wetlands\, significant woodlands\, and escarpments. \nAdditionally\, the municipality proposes removing the Shore Lands designation in two areas outside the Natural Core Areas where development would not normally be supported under the policies of the Official Plan. These two additional areas are lands south of the Isaiah Tubbs Resort and lands at the end of Cressy Point. \nThe proposed Official Plan amendment would change the designation of these properties to either the Agricultural or Rural designation as illustrated on the four maps posted under “Important Documents” on the Have Your Say page. \nPhase 2 — January 2025 – May 2025: An evaluation of the goals\, objectives\, and policies of the Shore Lands designation. \nA comprehensive review of the designation will consider if the goals and objectives are still relevant and appropriate\, and if the policies need to be updated. \nThe review may also result in further changes to the schedules of the Official Plan\, including Schedule A: Land Use Designations\, and possibly Schedule F: Recreation and Tourism. \nTo learn more about the review and view the maps\, please visit the County’s Have Your Say page or contact Scott Pordham\, Policy Coordinator\, Development Services\, at 613.476.2148 extension 2024 or email spordham@pecounty.on.ca.

SUMMARY:Hazardous and Electronic Waste Mobile Event
DESCRIPTION:All residents are invited to dispose of their household hazardous and electronic waste free of charge at several mobile events located within Prince Edward County. \n\nThe mobile events hosted by Quinte Waste Solutions will take place at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street) from 9 am – 2 pm on the following dates:\n\nSaturday\, May 11\nSaturday\, July 13\nSaturday\, August 10\nSaturday\, October 19\n\n\nHousehold hazardous and electronic waste can be found in almost every room of your home. These products\, if thrown in the garbage or poured down the drain\, can have negative effects on the environment including an impact on groundwater and surface water such as creeks\, rivers\, and lakes.\nClick here to view the schedule and see a full list of items that are accepted at mobile events.\nPlease note that motor oil and scrap metal are not accepted. Motor oil must be dropped at the hazardous waste depot in Belleville. Operating hours are available on the Quinte Waste Solutions website.
