DESCRIPTION:The Owen Jones Memorial Community Cleanup in support of the Quinte Trash Bash returns on Saturday\, April 26. \nTrash bash supplies will be available for pick up at 115 Lake Street in Picton and at Shire Hall (332 Picton Main Street) beginning Saturday\, April 12. They will also be available at the Wellington and Picton Home Hardware locations. \nResidents who are interested in participating alone or in a group can register by contacting Evan Nash at evannash@gmail.com or via this form. \nWaste collected on the day of the cleanup can be dropped off at the following locations free of charge: \n\nPicton Home Hardware (13544 Loyalist Parkway)\nMidtown Brewery parking lot (266 Wellington Main Street)\n15 Coleman Street (Ameliasburgh)\, next to the works garage\n2179 County Road 17 (Milford)\, in front of the fairgrounds\n\nParticipants are encouraged to send a photo of your group participating in the cleanup to communications@pecounty.on.ca for a chance to win prizes. \n

This will help reduce greenhouse gases and improve interest in the program. DESCRIPTION:All residents are invited to dispose of their household hazardous and electronic waste free of charge at several mobile events located within Prince Edward County. \nThe mobile events hosted by Quinte Waste Solutions will take place at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street) from 9 am – 2 pm on the following dates: \n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 10\nSaturday\, June 14\nSaturday\, July 19\nSaturday\, September 13\n\n\n\nHousehold hazardous and electronic waste can be found in almost every room of your home. These products\, if thrown in the garbage or poured down the drain\, can have negative effects on the environment including an impact on groundwater and surface water such as creeks\, rivers\, and lakes. \nClick here to view the schedule and see a full list of items that are accepted at mobile events. \nPlease note that motor oil and scrap metal are not accepted. Motor oil must be dropped at the hazardous waste depot in Belleville. Operating hours are available on the Quinte Waste Solutions website.

DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is hosting a kick-off meeting for a pathway plan and park design at Wilkinson Memorial Park on Thursday\, June 12. \nThe meeting will take place on from 9 am – 10 am at the park (2699 County Road 8\, Waupoos). \nThe municipality is working with VTLA Studio to develop a plan to improve the park. The public is welcome to attend the kick-off meeting to learn more and share their feedback. \nThe Wilkinson Memorial Park pathway plan and park design is 1 of 10 parkland projects across Prince Edward County that are being supported by funds from the Parkland Reserve. Provincial legislation requires municipalities to spend a certain portion of funds in their Parkland Reserve. The funds in this reserve come from developers who provide cash instead of dedicating parkland to the municipality. Municipalities are required to spend those funds in the same geographic area as the development. \nAn initial consultation for Wilkinson Memorial Park identified the desire for an outdoor rink at the park. However\, given the challenges of making ice during recent unpredictable winters\, Council directed staff during the 2025 deliberations to use the $80\,000 for park improvements instead. \nThe Wilkinson Memorial Park currently has a tennis and pickleball court with basketball hoops. There is a playground and band shelter. The park also has an old baseball diamond and a large green space with new trees that were planted a year ago. DESCRIPTION:The 2025 Ontario Heritage Conference is scheduled for June 19th to 21st in Prince Edward County! \nA wide variety of sessions are planned for an informative and interesting few days that expand on the theme How Tourism\, Economic Development & The Local Community Benefit from Adaptive Re-Use.  \nThursday June 19 \nEnjoy socializing with your fellow heritage enthusiasts over a selection of drinks and snacks at the Crystal Palace from 5 pm to 9pm with early registration starting at 2 pm. The Crystal Palace is one of the world’s few surviving replicas of the famed glass structure inspired by the original Crystal Palace created by Sir Joseph Paxton in 1851 for the Great Exhibition in London England.  The evening presentation will be by local historian Peter Lockyer\, who has worked and supported the County’s heritage sector for decades. Peter will highlight the value of creating a Heritage Economy where local history can enhance the provision of goods and services\, making history a significant economic driver. After the welcome reception and as capacity allows attendees can join ACO PEC for an architectural walking tour of downtown Picton\, to see how chimney swifts\, a species at risk in Ontario\, use local heritage buildings as habitat. \nFriday\, June 20 \nAlmost all conference offerings including breakfast\, lunch and dinner will be at BASE31\, located on the historic site of a 70-acre WWII air training base in Picton that is now a premier cultural destination\, offering a unique setting for all types of events with acres of history and heritage to explore. The morning keynote moderated by Michael McClelland\, Principal of ERA Architects is TERROIR: How is heritage conservation the impetus for economic development?  Just as the concept of “terroir” is the foundation for good wine\, heritage buildings and their landscapes are assets that can spur economic development through adaptive re-use. The morning session will end with a Pictorial Tour of Adaptive Re-use in Prince Edward County presented by ACO PEC followed by lunch. The afternoon will bring lots of programming choices for conference guests with topics ranging from Public Art to Social Justice\, from Practical tools for heritage volunteers to 50yrs of the Heritage Act and Tsi Tyónnheht Onkwawén:na Language & Cultural Centre will share a 25-year history of preserving the Mohawk Language. The evening\, will include some social time followed by the Gala Dinner and a presentation from Tim Jones\, CEO of Base 31 who will share his thoughts on adaptive heritage and how it has been applied at Base31 to create a new space of value for the community. Guests are welcome to stay after dinner to tour the new Base31 museum that houses a Lancaster Bomber and to explore and enjoy the plethora of art installations and captivating experiences this space has to offer. \nSaturday\, June 21 \nAttendees will have a few choices on offer to get out and about in Prince Edward County and beyond! Programming ranges from a South Shore Adventure tour with ACO PEC\, visiting some lesser known heritage delights to joining an accomplished group of local designers\, builders and makers each of whom have contributed to the ongoing heritage restoration and revitalization of an East Lake Farm. There will also be a morning tour of the Picton Armory built in 1913\, once used as a recruiting depot during WWI and WWII and now retrofitted for shops and services; as well as an early afternoon guided walking tour of Glenwood Cemetery; and a late afternoon visit to Macaulay Church for a presentation about Secret Societies and their Stained Glass. Heritage Belleville are also offering an intimate tour of Belleville’s downtown Memorial Market Place\, City Hall\, and City Market. \nThe conference will wrap up by recognizing and celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day with Tom Wilson & The Mohawk Choir performing at the beautiful Regent Theatre in historic downtown Picton on Saturday at 7:30pm. The Tom Wilson Mohawk Symphony\, with its deeply personal themes and universal resonance\, represents a landmark moment in contemporary Canadian music\, inviting audiences on a transformative journey of discovery and connection. \nAdmission to all conference events are included with your conference ticket unless otherwise noted and as capacity allows. SUMMARY:Public Information Centre (PIC): York Street Reconstruction Project
DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is hosting a public information centre (PIC) for the York Street reconstruction project in Picton on Thursday\, June 19. \nThe PIC will take place at the Picton Town Hall (2 Ross Street) from 6-8 pm. \nThe project\, approved by Council in 2024\, will see York Street reconstructed between Picton Main Street and Mary Street. The municipality will replace a large sanitary sewer and install a new watermain. The project will also include a new roadway\, curbs and sidewalk.
