SUMMARY:Community Safety and Well-being Plan: Public Consultation
DESCRIPTION:Consultations are now taking place to inform the development of the next iteration of Prince Edward County’s Community Safety and Well-being Plan for 2027-2030. CSWB plans are legislated by the province through Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act\, 2019. \nCommunity Safety and Well-being (CSWB) Plans act as roadmaps for making life safer\, healthier and more supportive for everyone. They are shared plans that bring local organizations\, service providers\, and residents together to prevent problems before they happen and to make sure people get the right help at the right time. It looks at the big picture — things like basic needs\, mental health\, education\, and community belonging — because these are the real factors that shape safety and well-being. \nResidents are encouraged to participate through the online Have Your Say platform\, by picking up a printed survey from any library branch or Shire Hall\, or by attending a public consultation. \nIn-person consultations will take place: \nWednesday\, June 10 \n\n10:30 am – Sophiasburgh Town Hall\, 2771 County Rd 5\n1:30 pm – North Marysburgh Town Hall\, 2699 County Rd 8\n\nThese consultations are being co-facilitated with Loyalist College Centre for Healthy Communities and The County Foundation’s Vital Signs. \nIf you are part of a community group that would like to schedule a facilitated consultation\, please contact Hilary Fennell\, Community Initiatives Coordinator\, at hfennell@pecounty.on.ca or 613.503.0187. \nConsultation will close on Friday\, June 12. Loyalist College Centre for Healthy Communities and municipal staff will evaluate the feedback received from residents and community partners and will present the findings to Council in late August for its input. The final copy of the 2027-2030 Community Safety and Well-being Plan will be presented to Council early next year.

SUMMARY:Public Information Centre: County Road 49 Rehabilitation
DESCRIPTION:The major structural rehabilitation of County Road 49 reached another milestone with the award of the construction tender to R.W. Tomlinson Ltd. \n“For years\, Councils of the day have heard from residents\, businesses\, and visitors about the dire need to fix one of the worst roads in Ontario. Now\, we are getting it done\, and I couldn’t be happier\,” Mayor Steve Ferugson says. \nThe municipality is proceeding with the Council-approved preferred rehabilitation option of rubblizing the existing concrete pavement and placing a new asphalt overlay. Rubblizing is a construction technique that fractures old\, deteriorated concrete pavement into small\, interlocking pieces to serve as a strong\, flexible base for the new roadway. \nWork is tentatively scheduled to begin during the 2026 construction season. A minimum of one lane of traffic\, operating under alternating directions\, will be maintained at all times throughout construction. During this construction season\, the contractor anticipates completing the following work: \n\nRubblizing County Road 49 between County Road 15 (Northport Road) and Civic Address 684 County Road 49.\nPlacement of granular material followed by the first and second overlay of asphalt\nSubdrain installation\nCulvert replacements\nBox culvert waterproofing\n\nA more detailed construction schedule is currently under development. Substantial completion date for this project is November 1\, 2028. \n A public information centre (PIC) will take place on Wednesday\, June 10 at 5 pm at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street).  \nThe municipality will provide updates to the public throughout the project. Click here to sign up for the email notices. \nLearn more about the project on the County website. \nCounty Road 49 serves as a transportation route for the municipality’s tourism\, hospitality\, and employment sectors. The road experiences average daily traffic volumes of approximately 6\,000 vehicles\, with peak traffic occurring during morning and evening rush hours. This includes commercial and industrial traffic\, with heavy trucks accounting for about 5 per cent of the total traffic. \nOpened in 1966\, County Road 49 spans 18.4 kilometres\, of which 17.3 kilometres is concrete pavement. The road connects Picton\, the municipality’s largest settlement area\, with the Bay of Quinte Skyway Bridge\, one of the largest entry-points into the municipality from Highway 401. The Province of Ontario downloaded the roadway to the County in 1998. County Road 49 has reached the end of its natural lifespan. These products\, if thrown in the garbage or poured down the drain\, can have negative effects on the environment including an impact on groundwater and surface water such as creeks\, rivers\, and lakes.\n\n  \n\nClick here to see a full list of items that are accepted at mobile events. \n\n  \n\nElectronic waste will no longer be accepted at mobile collection events and can be brought to the following waste sites during regular hours of operation.\n\nSophiasburgh (35 County Road 14)\nSouth Marysburgh (1132 Old Milford Road)\n*NEW – Wellington (275 Consecon Street)\n\n\n\nHazardous waste is not accepted at waste sites. SUMMARY:Hazardous waste mobile collection event
DESCRIPTION:All residents are invited to dispose of their household hazardous waste free of charge at upcoming mobile events in Wellington. \nThe mobile event\, hosted by GFL Environmental Services\, will be held at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street) from 9 am – 2 pm. \nAdditional events will be held on the following dates: \n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 9\nSaturday\, June 13\nSaturday\, July 18\nSaturday\, September 12\n\n\n\n\nHousehold hazardous waste can be found in almost every room of your home. These products\, if thrown in the garbage or poured down the drain\, can have negative effects on the environment including an impact on groundwater and surface water such as creeks\, rivers\, and lakes.\n\n  \n\nClick here to see a full list of items that are accepted at mobile events. \n\n  \n\nElectronic waste will no longer be accepted at mobile collection events and can be brought to the following waste sites during regular hours of operation.\n\nSophiasburgh (35 County Road 14)\nSouth Marysburgh (1132 Old Milford Road)\n*NEW – Wellington (275 Consecon Street)\n\n\n\nHazardous waste is not accepted at waste sites. For a list of accepted electronic waste\, please click here. \n\n*NEW- automotive waste is now accepted at mobile collection events. This includes motor oil\, filters and coolants. Outside of collection events\, motor oil must be dropped off at the hazardous waste depot at 75 Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville. Click here to view the operating hours.\n\n  \n\nPlease note\, batteries brought to mobile collection events as well as the hazardous waste depot must have terminals taped. Improperly stored or discarded batteries can cause fire. To keep everyone safe\, cover the terminals with non-conductive tape such as clear packing tape\, duct tape or electrical tape. Do not cover the brand name or chemistry on the label.\n\n  \n\nScrap metal will not be accepted at mobile collection events.
