SUMMARY:Public Meeting: Wilkinson Memorial Park / Prinyers Cove Boat Launch Park Project
DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is hosting a public meeting to gather input and feedback on the Wilkinson Memorial Park / Prinyers Cove Boat Launch Park improvement project. \nThe meeting will take place on: \nTuesday\, November 19 \n3 pm – 5 pm at the pavilion in the park outside of the North Marysburgh Hall   \n(2699 County Road 8\, North Marysburgh) \nThe Wilkinson Memorial Park currently has a tennis and pickleball court with basketball hoops. There is a playground and band shelter. The park also has an old baseball diamond and a large green space with new trees that were planted a year ago. Also on the property is a canteen and shaded picnic area. \nAt the meeting on November 19\, you can share your ideas on how the green space in Wilkinson Memorial Park or Prinyers Cove Boat Launch Park can be used. You can also share your feedback online through the municipality’s public engagement site. \nThe Wilkinson Memorial Park / Prinyers Cove Boat Launch Park is 1 of 10 parkland projects across Prince Edward County that are being supported by funds from the Parkland Reserve. Provincial legislation requires municipalities to spend a certain portion of funds in their Parkland Reserve by the end of the year. The funds in this reserve come from developers who provide cash instead of dedicating parkland to the municipality. Municipalities are required to spend those funds in the same geographic area as the development. \nFor more information\, contact the County of Prince Edward at 613.476.2148 ext. 1023\, 613.962.9108 ext. 1023\, or email info@pecounty.on.ca. \n

SUMMARY:Guardian Network Training
DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward\, in partnership with Agriculture Wellness Ontario\, is hosting a mental health training session for the agricultural community on Friday\, December 13 \nThis full-day training focuses on strategies and tools to identify the signs of mental distress\, react to farmers at risk\, and connect individuals with appropriate mental health and crisis resources. \nThe training workshop is offered through the Guardian Network\, a volunteer\, peer-driven community of mental health advocates that supports Ontario’s farming community. The Guardian Network also includes ongoing peer connection and continuous learning for trained Guardians. \nThe role of a Guardian Network trainee is to reduce mental health stigma in agricultural communities by promoting access to mental health supports\, Agriculture Wellness Ontario programs\, and fostering mental health conversations with farmers who may be in distress. \nResearch has found that 76 per cent were classified as having moderate to high stress\, which can lead to physical and mental illness. Furthermore\, 49 per cent of farmers reported mild to severe anxiety disorders\, while 58 per cent reported mild to severe depressive disorders. Suicide ideation occurs twice as much in farmers compared to the general population. \nCounty Council endorsed the Agricultural Advisory Committee’s recommendation at the November 12 Regular Meeting of Council for this training. “The Guardian Network training inspires confidence and compassion\,” says Councillor Phil Prinzen. “People in the farming community have always looked out for each other. This training provides the skills and knowledge to help those who need help.” \nThe training session will be offered at the Bloomfield Town Hall\, 251 Bloomfield Main Street. The training is in-person and will run from 9 am to 4 pm. Refreshments will be provided. \nThis training is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is likely to be in contact with farmers through their work\, volunteer activities\, or their place in their community. Click here to register. \nLearn more about the Guardian Network. If you have questions or require further information\, contact Priyanka Gupta at 1.800.875.6213 or pgupta@ontario.cmha.ca

SUMMARY:Comment Deadline: Picton Town Hill intersection improvements
DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward has completed the Picton Town Hill intersection improvements study. \nThe initial preferred solution — which was presented at the second Public Consultation Centre in October 2023 — has been revised based on extensive public feedback received during the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment and a consideration of all technical requirements. Instead of a roundabout\, the recommended plan now features a signalized intersection with a northbound receiving lane. \nThe Picton Town Hill study was conducted as a Schedule B Environmental Assessment Study under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA\, 2023). The MCEA is a provincial document that sets out the process for how municipal infrastructure projects are planned and evaluated. The municipality must follow this process under Ontario’s Environmental Assessment Act. \nA Public Consultation Centre (PCC) for the Picton Town Hill study was held on May 18\, 2023 where the municipality introduced the study. The second PCC was held on October 4\, 2023. \nThe deadline to provide feedback is Wednesday\, January 8. Visit the project webpage to view the report and documents. Click here to read the full Notice of Study Completion. \nIf you wish to provide feedback\, please contact Jeff Shortt\, Project Manager\, at 613.476.2148 extension 1007 or email jshortt@pecounty.on.ca.

SUMMARY:Taxi By-law Consultation: Survey Deadline
DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is currently reviewing its taxi by-law and is seeking public input about the needs and concerns of community members regarding local taxi services. \nTaxis are an essential part of Prince Edward County’s rural transportation ecosystem and meet a wide variety of needs within the community. \nPublic feedback will help shape the future of the municipality’s taxi regulations\, specifically on usage\, rates\, safety and comfort\, accessibility and environmental impact. \nThe information gathered from this engagement process will be used to prepare a report for County Council\, which will guide the review and potential revision of the taxi by-law. \nFeedback is being collected through a public survey that is available on the municipality’s Have Your Say website. The survey closes on Friday\, January 10\, 2025. \nWritten comments can also be submitted to Mike Kelly\, Supervisor of By-law Enforcement\, at mkelly@pecounty.on.ca or can be dropped off at Shire Hall (332 Picton Main Street) between office hours\, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am – 5 pm.
