SUMMARY:Public Art Committee Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:In January 2025\, the Corporation of the County of Prince Edward entered into a three-year partnership agreement with County Arts to lead the development and implementation of the municipality’s public art program in collaboration with municipal staff. \nCounty Arts is currently working on drafting the Public Art Policy\, which will be presented to County Council for approval in Q2 2025. We are also drafting related procedures and working on establishing an Interdepartmental Public Art Team composed of municipal staff\, and a volunteer Public Art Committee composed of residents. There will be a public call issued for Public Art Committee members; information will be posted on this page. \nAre you interested in proposing a public art project on municipal property? \nUntil the Public Art Policy is approved\, a temporary moratorium on permanent public art installations on municipal property remains in place. However\, the municipality does allow for temporary public art installations. The guidelines and application form can be found here on the municipality’s website. Questions should be directed to Jane Vader\, Bookings Representative\, Recreation and Community Facilities bookings@pecounty.on.ca / 613.476.2148 extension 5003. \nWe are excited to be accepting applications from community members who wish to be a part of Prince Edward County’s first Public Art Committee (PAC)! There are six (6) volunteer community representative positions available. The application deadline is Friday March 14th at 4 p.m.  \nApply Here

SUMMARY:Climate Action Plan: Public Consultation
DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is taking action on climate change as a participant in the Partners for Climate Protection(PCP) program. The input and feedback from the public is crucial as the municipality and the community work toward creating a Climate Action Plan for both mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change at both the municipal and community level. \nBackground\nCounty Council declared a climate emergency in 2019. In 2021\, the municipality took another step in implementing effective measures to mitigate climate change when it became an active member of the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program. \nThe PCP program is a national network of more than 400 municipalities with the shared goal of taking action against climate change and reducing local greenhouse gas emissions. As a member of the PCP program\, the municipality is committed to meeting five milestones over the next 10 years: \n\nMilestone 1: Creating a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and forecast\nMilestone 2: Setting emission reduction targets\nMilestone 3: Developing a Local Action Plan\nMilestone 4: Implementing the Local Action Plan\nMilestone 5: Monitoring and evaluating progress\n\nThese steps are followed by the corporation and by the community in a collaborative approach to developing a plan to address climate change. Municipal staff are leading the portion of the action plan aimed at reducing the GHG emissions within the local government’s direct control or influence. The Climate Action Plan Working Group is responsible for quantifying the GHG emissions generated within the community as a whole. \nPublic Consultation\nIn order to get the broadest possible input from the community\, a series of upcoming public consultation events will ensure that proposed actions reflect the wishes of County residents: \n\nSaturday\, March 22\, 10 am – 12:00 noon – Ameliasburgh Town Hall\nSaturday\, March 29\, 10 am – 1 pm – Wellington and District Community Centre\nWednesday\, April 2\, 3 – 4 pm – Youth engagement at The ROC in Picton\nWednesday\, April 9\, 4:30 – 6:30 pm – Milford Town Hall\nSaturday\, April 12\, 12 pm – 2 pm– Prince Edward Community Centre in Picton\n\nAt each of the consultation events\, participants are invited to: \n\nLearn more about the work being done by County staff and the Climate Action Plan Working Group\nExplore the initial GHG findings\nPut forward their views on proposed actions as well as their own suggested remedies. All viewpoints will be taken into account as we develop the way forward for the County.\n\nLearn More: https://haveyoursay.thecounty.ca/climate-action-plan
