DESCRIPTION:The first public open house for the Comprehensive Zoning By-law review project is scheduled for Wednesday\, March 29. \nThe public open house is an opportunity for all members of the community to be involved in the Zoning By-law Review and provide preliminary input. This will be the first of several open house and public meetings that will be held in locations across the County in the coming months. \nThe public open house will include: \n\nA brief presentation by the County’s project consultant\, WSP\, including an overview of the Zoning By-law Review project\, work plan\, and summary of the draft discussion paper prepared for the project. DESCRIPTION:The County of Prince Edward is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Addendum on the Main Street Sewage Pumping Station and associated sanitary sewer upgrades in Picton. This is an addendum to the sanitary servicing recommendations to the 2017 Class EA for Master Servicing for Water\, Sanitary\, Stormwater Systems and Road Intersections in East Picton. The Class EA Addendum will consider and evaluate alternative locations for the new sewage pumping station and associated sanitary sewers that need to be upgraded to accommodate for future growth in the East Picton area. Public Consultation is important to the success of this Class EA process. As such\, we welcome public and agency input and comments at the upcoming Public Information Centre (PIC): \nA Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held on Thursday\, April 6\, 2023 from 6 pm – 8 pm at the Prince Edward Community Centre (Rotary Club of Picton Hall) at 375 Main Street\, Picton.

DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, Prince Edward County Declared April 22 to be Owen Jones Community Clean up Day. In support of the declaration\, an inaugural community clean up was hosted on Earth day in 2022 to commemorate Owen Jones and his contributions to keeping the streets of the County trash free. Read the proclamation. \nPrince Edward County is proud to partner with community leader Evan Nash to host the second annual Owen Jones Clean-up and to continue the tradition of keeping our community trash free. This year the event will be held in support of the Quinte Trash Bash\, which is a series of clean-ups being held in other neighbouring municipalities in the Quinte area. DESCRIPTION:Prince Edward County recognizes the benefits of composting organics. particularly the cost benefits composting at home can have on the overall waste management budget. \nIn support of this\, the County is giving away a limited number of composters to the public to support the most efficient means of managing organics waste; Back yard composting. DESCRIPTION:Quinte Waste Solutions has published the 2023 calendar for household hazardous waste disposal events. Events will take place in April\, June\, August and October. \nCounty residents can drop household hazardous and electronic waste free of charge. The event takes place at 75 County Road 1 (Sandy Hook Road). \nHousehold hazardous waste can be found in almost every room of your home. These products\, if thrown in the garbage or poured down the drain\, can have negative effects on the environment including an impact on groundwater and surface water such as creeks\, rivers\, and lakes. \nClick here to see a full list of items that are accepted at mobile household hazardous waste mobile drop-off events. \nPlease note that used motor oil and scrap metal are not accepted at QWS mobile drop off events. Motor oil must be dropped at the hazardous waste depot in Belleville. Operating hours are available on the Quinte Waste Solutions website.

DESCRIPTION:A COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be held at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street\, Picton) on Tuesday\, April 25 from 3 pm to 6:30 pm \nThis clinic is by appointment only and is available to all people over the age of 6 months. You can book an appointment by going online to book or calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1.833.943.3900. \nThe Prince Edward Family Health Team is encouraging residents to get a bivalent booster as it increases your protection against severe COVID-19 from Omicron variants 40 per cent more than the previous boosters. \nThe COVID-19 vaccine clinic on April 25 will be the final one held at the Prince Edward Community Centre. Since the vaccine became widely available in Spring 2021\, 178 COVID-19 vaccination clinics have occurred at the Prince Edward Community Centre\, allowing thousands of County residents to get their vaccine close to home. \nEligible individuals can receive their vaccination at many participating local pharmacies\, by contacting the pharmacy directly. Please visit covid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations for location and registration information. \nInformation about future vaccination clinics in the region is available on the Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health website.

Our Volunteer Open House is intended to showcase the exciting efforts our environmental based groups have undertaken and highlight upcoming projects each group are working on. Residents interested in participating or just hearing what is happening in their community are invited to attend. \nThe event will be kicked off with Earth Week Talks including a second offering of the Beauty of Compost discussion\, and Wetlands and Wildlife (presented by the WLCA). \nRefreshments will be provided by The County Foundation.

SUMMARY:Large Item Swap
DESCRIPTION:Prince Edward County is supporting beneficial re-use of large items through endorsing a large item swap. During the event\, residents within settlement areas are encouraged to place their lightly used large items at the curb for other residents to take and continue to use. Large items could include furniture\, electronics\, tools\, etc. \nPromoting the driving of rural roads not only impacts the road condition but contributes large amounts of green house gases. As an alternative\, the County has set up a Facebook page where residents in rural areas can post their items and location for people to peruse. Those living in the settlement areas are also welcome to use the site. \nItems must be removed the next day. The event will be weather dependent and will be cancelled in the event of rain.

SUMMARY:Tree Seedling Giveaway 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Emerald Ash borer is in the process of decimating local population of Ash trees in the County and in much of Ontario. To offset this loss\, Prince Edward county is hosting a tree giveaway for folks impacted by the EAB and those wishing to plant trees on their private property. \nTrees have been purchased from Quinte conservation and Pine Needle farms.  Available trees will include: White Pine\, White Cedar\, Balsam Fir\, Red Oak\, Sugar Maple\, Silver Maple\, White birch\, Black Cherry\, Black walnut\, American Mountain Ash\, and Nanny berry. The approval would facilitate the development of 199-325 residential units. \nMembers of the public who wish to attend the virtual public meeting must register by contacting mcoffey@pecounty.on.ca by noon on Monday\, May 1. The meeting will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams. If you have any questions regarding accessing Microsoft Teams please contact Matt Coffey by email. \nMaterials for the applications can be viewed on The County’s website. \nThis public meeting is an information meeting only. Public information meetings are held as part of the planning application process. \nAt a public information meeting\, the proponent/agent will present the proposal. If any member of the public would like to ask questions or make comments\, they will be able to do so after the presentation by the applicant. \nThe statutory public meeting required under the Planning Act will be a Planning and Development Committee meeting. DESCRIPTION:A Public Information Centre has been scheduled for the Picton Main Street Reconstruction Project. \nThe County is proposing to commence the reconstruction of Main Street in 2023 from Johnson Street to 250 metres east of Spencer Street. \nThe purpose of this Public Information Centre is to review and showcase the detailed design of the project\, and to provide pertinent information to the area residents and gather input from the stakeholders regarding the upcoming construction. \nThe proposed works associated with Main Street will involve the installation of new underground infrastructure including watermains\, sanitary sewers\, and storm sewers\, whereby following such installations the roadway will be reconstructed with new concrete curb and gutters\, concrete sidewalks\, and a new an asphalt roadway surface.
