Wellington Wastewater Treatment Plant Class Environmental Assessment
The County is undertaking a Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the proposed replacement of the existing Wellington Wastewater Treatment Plant, located at 461 Wellington Main Street.
- Budget year: 2021
- Total cost: $126,297 (72 per cent recovered through Wellington Area-Specific Development Charges, 28 per cent through existing users)
The County awarded the contract to CIMA Canada Inc. in March 2022. Notice of Study Commencement issued July 2022.
The need to replace the existing Wellington Wastewater Treatment Plant was identified in the 2021 Wellington Master Servicing Plan for Water, Wastewater and Stormwater. New water and wastewater treatment plants are required to accommodate projected growth in the area and to address current capacity limitations with the existing systems.
The new treatment plant will be built within the property boundaries of the existing site, as shown by the study area limits.
The Class EA study will identify and evaluate alternative design concepts for the new wastewater treatment plant. Preferred treatment design concepts will be selected to minimize technical, socio-cultural, natural environmental and economic impacts.
Public consultation is an integral component of the Class EA process.
A Public Information Centre (PIC) was held on June 28, 2023.
A public information on Wellington water and wastewater infrastructure was held on August 31, 2023.
More details about the Class EA can be found in the staff report that went to Council in March 2022 recommending that the contract be awarded to CIMA Canada Inc. Click here to read the report.
