Wellington Water Treatment Plant Class Environmental Assessment
Overview:
The County is undertaking a Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the proposed replacement of the existing Wellington Water Treatment Plant, located at 459 Wellington Main Street.
Budget information:
- Budget year: 2021
- Total cost: $133,014 (82 per cent recovered through Wellington Area-Specific Development Charges, 18 per cent through existing users)
Project Status:

Underway
The County awarded the contract to CIMA Canada Inc. in March 2022. Notice of Study Commencement issued July 2022.
Project Details:
The need to replace the existing Wellington Water Treatment Plant was identified in the 2021 Wellington Master Servicing Plan for Water, Wastewater and Stormwater. New water and wastewater treatment plants are required to accommodate projected growth in the area and to address current capacity limitations with the existing systems.
The new treatment plants will be built within the property boundaries of the existing site, as shown by the study area limits.
Process
The Class EA study will identify and evaluate alternative design concepts for the new water treatment plant. Preferred treatment design concepts will be selected to minimize technical, socio-cultural, natural environmental and economic impacts.
Public Consultation
Public consultation is an integral component of the Class EA process. A Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held in association with the Class EA study. Once a date for the PIC is scheduled, the County will publish invitation notices to the PIC in local newspapers, on the County’s website and distribute to all individuals who express an interest in this project.
