Amenities & Activities
The Home employs a Recreation & Volunteer Services Supervisor who oversees the Rehabilitative and Recreation/Leisure program plans and organizes programs on a daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal basis. These programs are posted daily on the bulletin board across from the dining room. Recreational activities offered include; bingo, monthly birthday parties, fitness classes, manicures, sing-alongs, shopping trips, picnics, movie nights, barbeques and family dinners.
Rehabilitative services focus on restorative care, where the goal is to improve the Resident’s functional level or to prevent deterioration. Rehabilitative staff works with the physiotherapy team to provide restorative care.
Residents and family members are encouraged to participate in all programs. Suggestions for improvements or new programs are always welcome.
Special Events
Birthdays
We recognize birthdays by posting the resident’s name and birth date on our bulletin board in front of the dining room. A special birthday celebration is also held every month where all residents who have celebrated birthdays in the past month are honoured.
Families wishing to celebrate a birthday party or special occasion are welcome to use the Home for these events, subject to a reasonable number of guests. Families are responsible for providing the catering for these events. Please book your event with the Nutrition Manager or Recreation & Volunteer Services Supervisor.
Family BBQ
An annual family BBQ is held in the summer. All families are encouraged to attend. All residents enjoy a dinner outside while listening to live entertainment.
Christmas Bazaar
Every November, the Home hosts a Christmas Bazaar which is open to the public and local vendors. H.J McFarland has a baked goods and crafts table. All items are made by the residents or donated by families and/or staff.
Family Christmas Dinner
The H.J McFarland Annual Christmas dinner is held at the beginning of December. Each resident is encouraged to invite 2 members of their family or friends.
'Farewell Summer' Bonfire & Fireworks
A farewell summer bonfire and fireworks is held at the end of summer/ beginning of fall. All residents enjoy entertainment and a bonfire outside. The local fire department often puts on a fireworks show.
Activities
Our Resident Services Department offers a wide variety recreation and therapeutic programs to meet the needs of residents’ and improve their quality of life. Programs are offered during the day, evening and weekends. Assessments are done on a regular basis with the residents and families to ensure we are meeting their recreation and leisure needs.

Off-Site Outings
Community outings are offered to the residents on a monthly basis. Residents or families are asked to sign up on the activity board outside of the beauty salon. These outings include:
