This exhibit explores Truth & Reconciliation efforts in Prince Edward County through history\, heritage\, and Indigenous works of art and stories. \n Meet the Artists | 12 pm – 2 pm\nVisit with Artists Trevor Brant\, Angela Wiggins and Janice Brant \nArtist Talk | 1 pm\nJanice Brant will speak about her piece\, “Konwatsi’tsya’yon:ni: Molly of the Mohawks” \n Author Talk | 2 pm – 3 pm \nPicton and the surrounding area is the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig (Mississauga) people. They moved to Alderville First Nation in Alnwick Township (south shore of Rice Lake) in 1837. Brian Beaver will talk about the history of the Mississauga people and his book Alderville First Nation…A History. \nBrian graduated from Fleming College in Peterborough. He retired from the federal Public Service in Ottawa after 35 years of service (Canadian Human Rights Commission). Obsessed with the darker sides of our psyche\, Gin’s work explores love\, loss\, sexuality\, and mental illness. \nIN THE HANDS OF MEN \nHaunted by the loss of her cousin\, Cedar\, Delilah has curated a world of revenge: playing judge\, jury\, and executioner while\, you know\, searching for love. Maybe murdering gives her the control she craves. Maybe it fills the gaping hole that was left when Cedar disappeared. Maybe her rage is ancestral\, dating back to all of the Indigenous women before her whose cases were closed without much of a search. She’s never been close to getting caught\, but as a virus ripples through the world\, devolving men into animals\, she gets a little sloppy. Now she must ask herself\, is she a monster too or is she simply taking her power back from the hands of men? \nWarning: This event deals with trauma and adult subject matter. Mature audiences only.

DESCRIPTION:Wampum belts are traditional teaching tools that record Rotinonshon:ni history and knowledge. Traditions state that they have been used for more than 2\,000 years. Each of the dozens of belts have their own teachings and stories.\n\nCome hear about the origins of the belts\, how the belts are made\, and the teachings that they offer. This discussion will touch on the history of the Rotinononshon:ni as well.\n\nJamie Maracle has been making Wampum belts for at least 25 years and has been presenting about them for almost as long. He is from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory and has travelled to Six Nations of the Grand River\, Akwesasne\, Kanewake\, Onondaga and more to learn the traditions of the Wampum belts and other Rotinonshon:ni traditions\n\nAdmission is free\, though donations to the Kenhte:ke Seed Sanctuary and Learning Centre are welcome.\n\nSpace is limited. Findings that were gathered during a spooky overnight stay…\n\nThe Paranormal Seekers are a paranormal investigative group that specializes in historic locations and afterlife awareness\, from the Durham Region (operating out of Oshawa for the past 18 years). They investigate reported haunted locations and activity by using various methods: Psychic Mediums\, scientific equipment\, and research.\n\nTheir main goals are to bring history forward\, giving back the identities and stories of those who have passed and to educate others about the paranormal. The team has investigated many places\, including Parkwood Estate (Oshawa)\, Lang Pioneer Village Museum (Keene)\, the Regent Theatre (Picton)\, U.E.L. Heritage Centre (Adolphustown) and Merrill House (Picton)\, just to name a few. They were also been featured on The Marilyn Denis Show  among other productions and publications throughout the years.\n\nThe presentation starts at 1 pm\, and tickets are $10. DESCRIPTION:This year we again welcome Indigenous artists back to Macaulay Heritage Park for the seventh Art Show and Sale.\n\nHope springs eternal\, and during times of stress and change\, it is amazing to see how the human spirit can rise to give expression to life in all its established and experimental forms.\n\nArtistic creations in oils\, watercolours\, acrylics\, pen and ink\, and mixed media\, will join the carving and sculpted forms of bone\, antler\, and stone. A new element has been added this year with a design portion specializing in fabric and leather.\n\nAs an added feature\, the Art and Design show is bringing in a guest Mohawk artist who specializes in faces and the human form. Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered who that person was looking back at you? When you look at the faces he paints\, your mind will suddenly become filled with questions that may expand your understanding and even lead to an epiphany.\n\nCome join us this summer\, in an artistic adventure.\n\n(As written by show curator and participating artist\, Narda Kathaleen Julg.)\n\nThis year’s guest artist is D. Tour the neighbouring graveyard at his former church and spot the unusual tombstone that’s in Ripley’s Believe or Not. The tour will make its way to the nearby courthouse\, where you’ll explore the exercise yards\, jail cells and gallows\, most famously used in the 1884 hanging of two local men\, a sentence some say was based on dubious evidence… \nAccessibility Note: The Gallows are accessed via a flight of narrow stairs. Of a 90 minute tour\, this stop accounts for the final 5-10 minutes.

DESCRIPTION:A permanent exhibit by The County Museums at Macaulay Heritage Park. \nThe County’s human history spans nearly 12\,000 years. However\, in the past our museums have focused almost solely on the last two centuries\, and the story of white Loyalists\, who arrived in Prince Edward County in the late 1700s\, and their descendants. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Macaulay Church for a special concert event in support of Ukraine. Performers include Kris Tischbein and the Library String Orchestra.\n\nAn ever-evolving musician and composer\, bassist Kris Tischbein has written and performed music for the past 30 years. He has worked with Michael Manring\, Jake Clemons (of Bruce Springsteen fame)\, Jerry Mercer (April Wine)\, The Zone\, Carl Dixon (The Guess Who\, Coney Hatch)\, and many others.\n\nThe Library String Orchestra is a group of local musicians who volunteer their time to bring the joy of music to Prince Edward County. The members\, who range in age\, play a varied catalogue on violin\, viola\, cello and bass. The Orchestra’s mission has always been to help local organizations enrich their events by sharing their love of music. They are excited to have more opportunities to perform after a long hiatus during the pandemic.\n\nThe Library String Orchestra is sponsored by the Prince Edward County Public Library\, who provides the group with a space to practice and items such as music and strings.

Learn about how you can make your garden plantings more sustainable. The talk will introduce practical methods for planting\, what species work best in this area\, and how these choices can support the pollinator population. The event is free and open to all\, registration is not required.
