SUMMARY:Earth Day Event: Pitch-In Picton
DESCRIPTION:Pitch-In Picton takes place on Thursday\, April 23 at 6 pm. Pitch-In Picton is a monthly\, one-hour mini trash bash meets nature walk and local history tour. From April to October\, Feral Folc and the Picton BIA are walking the streets of Picton in search of trash. Join the cleanup by meeting outside of the Picton Library (208 Picton Main Street). No registration is required. Garbage and recycling bags\, gloves\, hand-sanitizer\, bag tags\, and snacks are supplied by the Picton BIA.  \nThe walk will cover 1 – 2 km of distance\, mostly on sidewalks\, in alleys and parking lots but can sometimes include parks and other uneven surfaces. Options for those with reduced mobility are available. If you require support\, please email feralfolc@gmail.com before the event. Each participant will receive a local gift certificate! DESCRIPTION:Prince Edward County residents\, entrepreneurs and business owners: we’re inviting you to join us for a free evening of learning\, sharing and understanding about accessibility and inclusion on October 2\, 2024! \nAs part of the County’s Accessibility Advisory Committee\, we want to encourage our community to come together in understanding accessibility needs and what supports exist in our region for folks who have disabilities\, require accessibility accommodations or simply want to learn more information. There will be a series of presentations from our non-profit community across the Bay of Quinte. \nThe event is free for all to attend. Thank you to the Picton Library for hosting us in their new Flex space! We’re thrilled to have two local vendors present to provide refreshments and light snacks as well as live music. \nWHEN: Wednesday\, October 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. \nWHERE: Picton Library\, 208 Main St. West\, Picton ON (Event will be held in the Flex space) There is street parking on Main Street\, a free parking lot on Mary Street\, and a free parking lot on King Street. There are a select number of accessible parking spaces in both downtown parking lots. \nWHAT: An Accessibility Non-Profit Networking Event. There will be a question and answer period at the end of the event. \nWHY: This is an opportunity to learn about the accessible services and programs that non-profit organizations are providing within our community. Nick is committed to prioritizing acceptance and is committed to hiring people with disabilities. His goal is to have at least 50% of staff with disabilities. \nTony Vani is a first-generation Canadian who has learning disabilities. Music has always been a passion of Tony’s\, and later in life he decided to return to school to complete his degree in Social Development Studies. Tony also has many certifications in working with youth with disabilities. Now\, Tony spends his time teaching music to (mostly) adults with various learning and developmental disabilities. \n  \n

We are focusing on offering repairs for items in these categories:\n fabrics/clothing electronics household items small appliances small furniture\n\nRepair Cafés happen all over the world – learn more about the initiative here: https://www.repaircafe.org/en/\n\n*In order to best share resources among all visitors to the Repair Cafe\, please be mindful to bring 1-3(ish) items for repair.\n**Although many common repairs are possible to achieve at the Repair Café not all items will be able to be fully fixed as it depends on the skills\, materials\, and time available for each unique repair.\n\nBring your item(s) for repair with all their broken parts/pieces and clean if possible. If you have the materials you believe you need to fix or replace the issue\, but don’t have the skills to do so\, please bring them also. We will have some spare parts and general fixing materials on-hand.\n\nThe Repair Café is free to attend. We encourage those who can to bring a donation to the Food Bank – either in cash or non-perishable food items – in exchange for support at the Repair Café. A donation jar and box will be on-site.\n\nGot too many hammers\, or other spare tools and repair-esk resources and want to share? Bring them to donate to our Tool Swap table.\n\nThe Repair Café will be set up in the basement/flex space at the Picton Public Library. The space is accessible from the side door of the library\, then by taking the stairs or elevator down one level. SUMMARY:Affordable Housing Information Session
DESCRIPTION:The Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation (PECAHC) has opened applications for housing in Wellington and Picton. \nPECAHC is developing two properties\, which will provide 52 units of affordable housing for occupancy by 2024. \nIn Wellington\, PECAHC is constructing a 36-unit multi-residential building on the site of the former Wellington Arena (230 Niles Street. The development will include a mix of of one-\, two- and three-bedroom units\, as well as four townhomes with three bedrooms each. \nIn Picton\, PECAHC is erecting a 12-unit multi-residential modular building on Disraeli Street. The building will include six bachelor and six one-bedroom unit. Rents will range from $620 for a bachelor unit to $1\,200 for a three-bedroom unit. \nPECAHC invites County residents to apply for these units. Three criteria will be used to review applications: \n\nHousing status: Whether the applicant currently has housing\, how affordable the housing is\, and if the housing is permanent or temporary.\nIncome: Must match the income ranges for the particular unit requested\, as set by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).\nResidency: The application is open to County residents\, as well as applicants who previously resided in the County and still work in the County. The application is also open to people who want to relocate to the County to care for a current County resident who needs assistance living at home.\n\nPECAHC will offer public information sessions to help people complete their applications: \n\nTuesday\, June 27\, 1 pm\, Picton Branch of the Prince Edward County Public Library\, (208 Picton Main Street)\nThursday June 29\, 10:30 am\, Consecon Branch of the Prince Edward County Public Library (211 County Road 29)\nThursday\, June 29\, 1 pm\, Wellington Branch of the Prince Edward County Public Library (261 Wellington Main Street)\n\nA session specifically for seniors will be held at Picton Town Hall\, 2 Ross Street\, on Thursday\, July 20 at 1 pm. \nThe application is available online.
