Drilling will take place on Barker Street (between Downes Avenue and Johnson Street) and Bowery Street (between King Street and Barker Street) on Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18.
- This work is required to collect additional geotechnical and hydrogeological information to support the future reconstruction of these roads.
- Traffic disruptions and lane restrictions will occur on Barker Street and Bowery Street between 7 am and 7 pm both days.
- The drilling activity will result in increased noise levels.
- Heavy equipment will operate in the area, which may limit visibility.
- Motorists are encouraged to avoid the work area whenever possible and follow all posted signage.
Barker Street and Bowery Street reconstruction update
The municipality intends to reconstruct Barker Street from Downes Avenue to Johnson Street, and Bowery Street from Barker Street to King Street. Click here to learn more about the project.
To ensure the best possible outcome for this project, municipal staff determined that more soil and groundwater studies were required.
As a result, construction on Bowery Street will begin in 2027 rather than fall 2026. The Barker Street construction schedule remains the same with work taking place in 2027.
Once a contractor has been awarded the project, the County will host another Public Information Centre to introduce the contractor, provide an updated construction schedule, and share further project details.
