H.J. McFarland Memorial Home employees Tara McGrath and Jessica Walker are this year’s recipients of the Jean Lynch Memorial Scholarship.

Ms. McGrath joined H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in 2024 as an activity aide. She has made a positive impact on the residents she supports. Currently pursuing studies in recreation therapy, Ms. McGrath is expanding her knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of life, engagement, and well-being of older adults.
Ms. Walker began working at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in 2023 as a personal support worker. She has also served as a restorative aide. Ms. Walker is currently working toward becoming a registered practical nurse, building on her experience and passion for caring for others.
Jean Lynch resided at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home from 2006 to 2016. Following her passing, her family established the scholarship in her honour as a tribute to the staff who provided compassionate care during her residency.
Created in 2016 through a $5,000 donation, the scholarship provides annual awards of $1,000 to H.J. McFarland Memorial Home employees, their children, or grandchildren who are pursuing post-secondary education. In 2023, the Lynch family renewed the scholarship with an additional $5,000 donation, extending the program for another five years.
