The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Poppy Campaign
From October 24 to November 11, millions of Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today.
The poppy is distributed freely to all who wish to wear one, and the Legion gratefully accepts donations to the Poppy Fund to support Canada’s veterans and their families. Look for poppy boxes at businesses and organizations across Prince Edward County.
On Tuesday, October 19, the Consecon, Picton and Wellington branches of the Royal Canadian Legion presented Mayor Steve Ferguson with the first poppy.
An Evening of Remembrance November 10
The public is welcome to attend Base31’s Exhibition Hall (343 County Road 22) on Tuesday, November 10 for a quiet evening of remembrance. Take in the glowing community-created luminaries and pause to reflect, remember and honour those who served.
When the sun sets, all of the luminaries will be illuminated, creating an evening of quiet remembrance. The community is invited to pause together, reflect, remember, and honour those who served. The luminaries will remain lit throughout the night until morning.
In the weeks leading up to Indigenous Veterans’ Day and Remembrance Day, visitors are invited to dedicate a luminary in honour or memory of someone who served. Dedications can recognize a family member, ancestor, friend or another individual, living or deceased. Luminaries are available for a minimum contribution of $5 in the Exhibition Hall, with proceeds donated to the Picton, Wellington, and Consecon branches of the Royal Canadian Legion.
