Affordable Housing Corporation moving ahead with demolition of former Wellington Arena March 17

March 10, 2023

Demolition of the Wellington Arena will get underway on Friday, March 17.

  • The demolition will make way for the construction of a new 36-unit affordable housing development comprised of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units and four three-bedroom affordable family townhomes for occupancy in the early fall of 2024.
  • The demolition of the building and disposal of all materials must follow the applicable guidelines required by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. Prior inspections found there was no asbestos in the building.
  • The contractor, Budget Environmental Disposal Inc., will ensure all materials and substances in the building are removed from the property safely and efficiently.
  • Heavy equipment may limit visibility in the area and noise levels will be elevated for the duration of the work.
  • Temporary road closures will take place during the demolition process. Public notices will be issued advising of the date and duration of any road closures.
  • Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the construction area if possible.
  • Staff have gone door-to-door in the immediate area surrounding the building to talk about the demolition with residents, including people living at Wellington Legion Manor.
  • In addition, a public meeting will be held at 6 pm on Monday March 13 at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street) to discuss the demolition with residents and answer any questions they may have.
  • For more information or if you have question, contact Elis Ziegler, Housing Programs and Services, at eziegler@pecounty.on.ca or call 613.922.3785.
  • Visit the Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation website to learn more about this project.
