County inspecting roadway traffic control signs over next several weeks

The County of Prince Edward is inspecting roadway traffic control signs on municipal roads over the next three weeks.

The County maintains more than 5,000 traffic control signs across its approximately 1,100 km road network. Under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, municipalities are required to regularly inspect and maintain roadway traffic signs to help ensure they remain visible and easy for drivers to read.

During this work, the municipality will complete the following:

  • Check the condition of roadway traffic control signs
  • Confirm traffic sign reflectivity for nighttime visibility
  • Identify signs that may be obstructed by vegetation or other objects

The information collected through these inspections will help the County develop future traffic control sign maintenance and replacement programs to support ongoing compliance with Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.

Traffic is not expected to be delayed or impacted by this work. The municipality is asking drivers to:

  • Slow down near survey vehicles
  • Watch for flashing amber lights
  • Follow all traffic signs and be careful around workers on the road

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while this important safety work is completed.
