County receives $2 million from province to resurface portion of Bloomfield Main Street

May 16, 2025

The County of Prince Edward has received $2,058,969 through the Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links Program to resurface Bloomfield Main Street from Corey Street to County Road 33.

“Having the Government of Ontario fund 90 per cent of this project is an exciting opportunity for Prince Edward County,” Mayor Steve Ferguson says. “This resurfacing will extend the life of the road providing a smooth, safe surface for all traffic.”

Planning and design for this project will happen in 2025, with the work taking place in 2026. The work on this 1.1 km stretch of Bloomfield Main Street is expected to take 6-8 weeks. The road will always remain open with one lane of traffic, and the work will be done in sections.

The municipality plans to involve the business community and residents to develop strategies to manage the impact of this project.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with the community to ensure this project is done in a timely manner that limits disruptions as much as possible,” Mayor Ferguson says.

There is no underground water infrastructure work associated with this project, making it significantly less complex and time-consuming than other recent road projects in Picton and Wellington.

The Ministry of Transportation’s Connecting Links Program provides dedicated provincial funding for road and bridge projects on designated connecting link highways. Connecting links are municipal roads designated under the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act.
