County to hold public information centre for Picton Town Hill intersection improvement study on May 18

The County has scheduled a public information centre (PIC) for the Picton Town Hill intersection improvement study on Thursday, May 18.

The PIC will take place at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street) from 5 pm – 8 pm. The purpose of the PIC is to introduce the public to the scope of the project, provide further information to residents, gather public input and share insights through small group discussions.

The County is completing a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study for improvements to the Picton Town Hill intersection. The study will evaluate all reasonable alternatives to improve the operation, safety and capacity of the existing intersection. The municipality has retained BT Engineering Inc. to lead the technical aspect of this project.

This MCEA project will build upon the work completed by the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) in 2021, which considered a high-level, broad range of alternatives to address the safety and operational concerns at the intersection.

The MCEA will take a site-specific focus and will include additional public consultation. This MCEA study will look at potential solutions that will expand on the short-term actions recently completed. Those short-term actions, which were required by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), included the installation of a new cantilever sign, updated line painting and pavement markings, and replacement of a retaining wall on Bridge Street. Provincial funding covered 90 per cent of these improvements. More information is available online.
