The County’s by-law officers will be conducting spot checks of licensed taxicabs in the coming weeks to ensure compliance with the Taxicab and Limousine Businesses By-Law.
The Taxicab and Limousine Businesses By-Law regulates the operation of vehicles that provide transportation and delivery services to the public. The intent of the by-law is to ensure that the public is served by safe vehicles, competent drivers and a fair rates and fares schedule.
The public is reminded that only licensed taxicabs and limousines may provide transportation services and delivery of goods to the public. Licensed vehicles can be identified by a taxi plate affixed to the outside rear of the vehicle.
Taxicabs are required to display their current taxicab owner identification card on the inside of the vehicle, as well as a current tariff of fees in a location that is visible to passengers. The set tariff of fees can be viewed on Schedule E of the by-law.
