Drilling and blasting on Millennium Trail in Wellington beginning January 13

December 23, 2024

December 23, 2024

Drilling and blasting operations will begin on the Millennium Trail in Wellington beginning on Monday, January 13.

Drilling and blasting will occur between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday – Friday.

The operations will take place on the section of the trail that is closed between Belleville Street and Consecon Street. Click here to view a map of the closed area.

Drilling and blasting are expected to take place over 40 business days. If drilling and blasting are required beyond that period, the municipality will provide an update to the community.

Three long sirens will be sounded prior to the blast to warn of imminent blast.

These operations are required as part of the Wellington trunk watermain and sanitary sewer construction project.

Project background

A new trunk watermain is required to meet the water distribution and storage needs of the existing residents and future development within the Wellington urban serviced area. The new sewer trunks will accommodate the anticipated increase in wastewater flows from new developments.

The new trunks will be constructed from the location of the existing water and wastewater treatments plants to the east along Wellington Main Street, north on Cleminson Street, east along the Millennium Trail and then connect to the new water tower on Belleville Street.

The project also includes a new sanitary pumping station located on the Millennium Trail near the intersection with West Street. This pumping station is a component of the new trunk sanitary sewer.

The municipality expects to complete the project by the end of 2025.
