Emergency accommodations are available overnight this evening, December 23-24, as Environment Canada is forecasting a windchill near minus 18 for Prince Edward County.

Snow or blizzard conditions are expected with a local amount of 10 to 15 cm. Wind will be from the southwest 70 km/h gusting to 120 km/h.

If you need a place to stay overnight, please call the local Salvation Army office at 613.476.3159 and a representative will help arrange accommodations. For after-hours inquiries, call 613.476.2345.

The County has partnered with the local Salvation Army to offer emergency overnight accommodations during extreme cold conditions.

Emergency overnight accommodations will be available when Environment Canada forecasts a temperature of -15° C or colder, or a wind chill of -20° C or colder, for Prince Edward County. The program is supported financially by the Prince Edward-Lennox and Addington Social Services.

The municipality’s emergency control group developed the extreme cold weather procedure based on community need and practices in similar-sized municipalities.
