Enbridge Gas Ontario assists Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue in supporting firefighter training

January 7, 2026

Enbridge Gas Ontario (Enbridge Gas) is helping Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue purchase firefighting training materials, through Safe Community Project Assist–a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates.

“Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Enbridge Gas–it’s one of our core values we live by,” says Mike Cooney, Supervisor – Operations, Enbridge Gas. “We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters with emergency response training that helps them strengthen
their skills, stay prepared, and continue protecting the vibrant communities they serve.”

This year’s $125,000 investment from Enbridge Gas will be shared by 25 Ontario fire departments, including Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue. Funds are used to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.

Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 394 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.

“Fire departments across Ontario train every single day and that is why it is important for them to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe. Safe Community Project Assist helps departments afford these essential training tools
and supports the ongoing learning that keeps the fire service safe,” says Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal, and Chair of the FMPFSC.

“This grant has helped equip our training department to purchase the newest edition of firefighter training materials. In high-risk professions, quality training isn’t just about skill development—it’s about ensuring our people return home safely at the end of every
shift,” says Interim Fire Chief Tim Kraemer. “We’re deeply grateful for this support, which will enable us to provide our firefighters with the training and resources needed to navigate complex, dangerous situations with confidence. This funding demonstrates a
shared commitment to protecting those who put themselves at risk in service of our community, and we appreciate the support from both Enbridge and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.”
