Thinking of running for Council? Free workshop available

February 6, 2026

Are you interested in running for County Council in the 2026 municipal election?

The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is offering a free online workshop for potential candidates in the October 2026 municipal elections.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 8 from 10 – 11:30 am.

This workshop is focused on providing insights to underrepresented candidates seeking election. Led by former municipal councillors Steve Anderson (Town of Shelburne) and Jasvinder Sandhu (Town of Oakville), the 90-minute sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding what it takes to become a candidate
  • Creating strategies for successful campaigning
  • Identifying your target audience
  • Developing effective messaging and branding
  • Using community engagement practices to enhance visibility and support

While the workshop has a focus on individuals from underrepresented communities, all are welcome!

For more information about the workshop and the speakers, read the full event description on the AMO website.
