Staying active just got easier for seniors in Prince Edward County.
The Take the Gym Home: Seniors Fitness Kits are now available for borrowing at all branches of the Prince Edward County Public Library.
These free fitness kits were developed by the New Horizons Seniors’ Advisory Group in collaboration with the County’s Community Safety and Well-being Plan. This initiative encourages older adults to stay strong, steady, and independent from the comfort of their home.
Each kit is conveniently packed in a carry-on suitcase and includes:
-
- Four instructional books
- Folding pedal exerciser with mat
- Resistance bands with guide
- Two dumbbells (2 lbs each)
- Yoga mat
- Gel stress balls
- Hand strength trainer
- Jump rope
The kit also includes a Fitness Kit Guide, co-developed with FitnessPowers, which offers safety tips, sample routines, and motivational strategies to help seniors get started and stay consistent.
Program Background
This program was designed by seniors, for seniors—based on feedback from community conversations about the challenges of staying active while aging. The goal is to provide a low-barrier, accessible way for older adults to support their physical health at home.
This program is funded by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
