An upcoming online session aims to help parents and caregivers better support the mental health and well-being of the young people in their lives.
The interactive session, Youth Mental Health: An Inside Look, will give attendees the opportunity to hear directly from youth about their mental health experiences. This interactive, youth-led presentation allows participants to hear directly from trained youth speakers as they share their lived experiences navigating mental health challenges and growing up in today’s world.

The County’s Community Safety and Well-being (CSWB) partners are working alongside YouthSpeak to host the event. The interactive session responds to specific feedback the partners have heard from young people over the last couple of years.
In 2025 and 2026, CSWB partners hosted a Youth Mental Health Resource Fair for Grade 7 to 12 students at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute. One of the key themes that emerged from a survey of young people was the challenge of talking to adults about what they are experiencing.
That feedback has helped shape local efforts to strengthen communication and build stronger connections between youth and the adults who support them. This work supports the goals of the Municipal Youth Engagement Strategy, approved by Council in September 2026, which emphasizes the importance of developing knowledgeable and supportive adult allies for young people in Prince Edward County.
Through this workshop, community members will build the knowledge and skills needed to effectively engage with, mentor, and support young people, helping to put the Youth Engagement Strategy into action.
Mental health and problematic substance use is one of the five key areas in the Community Safety and Well-being Plan. Visit the County website for more information about the plan.
